Jordyn stepped into the dance studio. Setting her bag down in the corner of the studio, she then grabbed her cd and placed inside the stereo. Sitting down in the middle of the floor, she stretched for about 10 minutes and then stood. Standing so she was now only in her white leotard and grey shorts. Switching from her street shoes to her dance shoes, Jordyn then walked over and pressed play on the stereo.
Looking at her reflection in the dance mirror all along the one side of the wall, she took a deep breath. Nodding her head to the beat of the music, she counted to herself and then started to dance. Her moves perfect, precise. She had practice this routine several times. She could do it in her sleep sh had practiced it so much.
When the song was over, she walked over and moved onto another song on the cd. Pulling her chocolate brown hair back into a messy pony tail, Jordyn started working on the next dance she was doing. Determined to make it great.

Sing along with me, Electricity
It was a nice day out. The sun was shining, the birds were tweeting, and there was even a slight breeze. Clad only in a blue t-shirt, a white hoodie, and black skinny jeans, Jesse was comfortable as he walked to the school building. He had some practicing to do on his kit. Taking a deep breath, Jesse stopped hitting his sticks against his legs to let himself into the building.
The building was almost never empty since it was such a competitive school. Today, however, the halls seemed to almost echo the boy’s footsteps. Suddenly becoming all too aware of his surroundings, Jesse kept looking over his shoulder and around the hall. The silence almost scared him. When he reached the door he thought to be the music studio, the boy quickly opened it and stepped in.
Once inside, Jesse heard music and looked around. He’d misjudged his walking skills and had jumped two doors too soon. There was a girl dancing in the… how’d he get in the dance studio? Not sure what to do, Jesse tried to slink out unnoticed. With all the mirrors, however, that was nearly impossible.
Jordyn came to a stop when she saw the reflection of someone in the mirror. Turning towards the door, she looked over at the guy. "What are you doing here?" She asked and then stopped the music. Standing there in the middle of the room, she caught her breath and waited for an answer.
The school was extremely competitive and she hated when people spied on her. She wasn't sure if he was spying though. Jordyn hadn't seen him in the dance studio before. Jordyn was guilty of spying on others. It was only to check out her competition. Not once did she steal moves or anything from another dancer.
Taking a few steps towards him, she let her hands rest on her waist as she continued to wait. "Well?" She said.

The sound of her voice didn’t sound like it was in the happy end of the emotion spectrum. Biting his lip, Jesse looked around the room. “Um… Got lost?” He wasn’t lying to her, but for some reason it had come out like a lie. He knew who she was. Shewas a senior. This was a not a girl he wanted to mess with, per say.
Holding up his hands, Jesse started to defend himself. “I swear I’m not spying or anything like that. I mean, do I really look like I could dance?” As if trying to prove a point he held out his drum sticks which had somehow gotten into his back pocket. “See? I’m a music guy. I can’t dance anyway.”
When she stepped closer, he got a little more scared. Yes, he was bigger than her, but she had a commanding presence. “I suppose I should uh… go. Right?”
"Sorry. You can never be sure." Jordyn said. It was the truth too. You could never be to careful. Giving a small smile, she brushed a strand of hair from her face. "No..its okay. You can stay if you like." Jordyn said.
Taking a few more steps towards him, she held out her hand to shake his. "I'm Jordyn." She said, trying to be nice. "Sorry again about before. You just can never be sure." She said.
he held out his drum sticks which had somehow gotten into his back pocket. “See? I’m a music guy.
"So..you play the drums." Jordyn said as she looked at his drum sticks. Walking over to her bag, she grabbed her water bottle and turned back to look at him. Taking a drink.

Jesse nodded, knowing that she was a bit calmer than before. “It’s alright. I understand. I’m kind of the same way about my music.” He managed a half smile. “Maybe not that intense, but I hate when other music people hear me before they’re supposed to.”
Shaking her hand, his half smile turned to a full one. “Jesse. And don’t worry. I get it. This school makes people crazy… but good crazy. Like, motivated crazy. I don’t know what I’m saying anymore.” He shrugged and looked around.
The boy stared at his sticks before twirling one in his left hand. “Today.” Letting his smile linger he watched her take a drink. “I’m one of the multi-instrument people here. Drums are my main focus though. They’ve always interested me most. I think it’s how loud they are. What about you? What kind of dance was that?” He knew basics, but if she started getting fancy he might need a quick verbal lesson.
"I do a few different types of dances." Jordyn said. "I started taking ballet for balance and tap for rhythm. I've done tang, ballroom, two-step, hip-hop, contemporary and a few others as well." Jordyn said and then set her water bottle down.
What kind of dance was that
"What I was just doing was contemporary. Nothing all that fancy or special." Jordyn said. That was her opinion. It was fun but she didn't think it was as fancy as some of the other dances that she did.

“Wow. That’s kind of intense. Then again, aren’t most dancers after a certain level?” He didn’t really know anything much. He knew that his sister usedto dance and gave up when she left for college. That was about the extent of his exposure to the dance world.
As she spoke Jesse simply nodded and looked at the mirrors. For some reason all he could think about was how do they keep them clean?
“I think you shouldn’t be allowed to judge yourself. In fact, none of us should be allowed to judge ourselves. We’re all way too critical of everything we do. Like with me. I know if I miss so much as a half a beat, I’ll beat myself up over it for days. It’s bad for our mental health, you know?”
Wow. That’s kind of intense. Then again, aren’t most dancers after a certain level?
"Yeah, we are a little intense after a while. Mostly because we are so passionate about what we do." Jordyn said. "Dancing for me, and most others, is a way for us to express ourselves. It's a way for us to show others how we are feeling or what we are thinking without words." She explained.

"I know. I judge myself a lot. Beat myself up when I make a mistake or when I can't get something the first time that I try and do it." Jordyn said. Giving a small smile, she brushed a stray strand of hair from her face once again. "I believe that everyone is their own worst critic and we try not to be but we are." She said.
