"honestly, you just do not get it. neither do i. what are we talking about?"

tom laughed as hannah did. "i have no idea. now i'm losing my mind thanks to you." he said, poking her arm. again, tom was joking. it seemed like everything he said when he was around hannah was a joke. sure, tom could be serious when he wanted to be, but he found that it was much more fun to joke around, especially with hannah. the only thing that was annoying his was his stomach. he patted it a few times, hoping that it was just hunger, but knowing that it wasn't.

the fact that tom knew all the words to high school musical scared him a little. "you realize that i haven't even seen this all the way through, but i still know all the words?" he asked rhetorically. he stuck his tongue out. tom hadn't seen it all. but, whenever he had seen bits of the film, he had seen one of the songs. which was probably why he knew all the words. still, it was very ironic that a song was on every single time tom turned the t.v. on. but tom didn't complain - it meant he could sing along to them with hannah, and he absolutely loved doing that.

tom grinned as hannah stopped singing, but then frowned, for real, as she looked down at her feet. something was wrong, he knew that much. what that thing was, he didn't know. but he wanted to find out, not out of nosiness, but simply out of concern for her. tom lowered his head down, so he could see hannah's face. "what's wrong?" he asked, the concerned feeling coming through in his voice.

"you don't have a mind to lose babe. and if you did lose it, it certainly wasn't my fault. i just helped. a little. or a lot."

tom smiled. "maybe i don't have a mind to lose. and yes, you definitely helped in the removal process." he stuck his tongue out, losing count of the number of times he had done that today. it was true. as a person, tom was rather crazy. but wasn't that a good thing? shy was no fun, normal was fun. now confident and crazy, that was a fun combination. tom guessed that he had been born crazy, and knew it wasn't a thing to be ashamed of. most people at fates were a little crazy, if tom was being honest.

"you haven't seen this all the way through? oh dear, now i'm going to have to make you watch it. and i find that very sad. at least i have the excuse of singing it in musical theatre. you, babe, have no excuse at all."

he grinned. "yes i do have an excuse. i could be duetting with somebody in my music lessons, thank you very much!" he laughed. tom singing high school musical with anybody apart from hannah would probably never happen, but it could have. he could end up singing it tomorrow for all he knew. "and fine, i'll watch it." he smiled. usually, tom would have said no, and if it had been anybody else, he would have. but seeing as it was hannah, tom made an exception.

"nothing, nothing. i just felt a bit sick, you know? but i'm fine now."

tom watched as hannah looked up at him, and smiled back at her, even though he was slightly worried. he knew something was wrong, but maybe hannah was right. maybe it was just a bug or an illness or something like that? or maybe it was something else? "are you sure? well, we'll not sing along, we'll just watch. yeah?" tom told her, wrapping an arm around her for the second time. he stayed there for as long as he thought was appropriate, then smiled and sat back on the couch, ready to watch.

"duh, otherwise, you wouldn't be sitting here with me now singing high school musical songs. honestly tom,"

he grinned, and laughed as hannah poked him in the ribs. tom loved this. just being with hannah in general. even after all they had been through, he still considered her to be his best friend. tom didn't know if hannah felt the same, but he didn't care, as long as he got to spend time with her. tom knew for certain that she didn't still like him though. he still liked her, but what the hell could he do about it? if he said anything, tom would never be able to speak to hannah again.


"tom, don't bother lying. you aren't doing a duet in music. especially not high school musical. admit it, you really don't have a life,"

"only because i don't know the chords. otherwise, i'd totally sing it every lesson," he replied, sticking his tongue out. it was true though. his class wasn't exactly the high school music type. they were more into alternative, punk rock sort of music, which made it that much more enjoyable for tom. plus, the fact tat he could play, and owned, both an acoustic and an electric guitar made choosing a song a lot easier too. tom knew some of his class laughed at the idea of high school musical. and yes, normally, tom wouldn't have watched it. but hannah wanted to to, so he was going to.

tom smiled as hannah rested her head on his shoulder. he himself moved closer, and gently rested his head on top of hers. it wasn't really helping his current situation, but he couldn't help it. it was like a reflex. "yeah, okay. let's just watch it. all of it," he smiled again. "sure." tom didn't move. it felt nice, holding hannah close. he simply looked up slightly, so he could see the t.v. from where he was.

"chord off, you wouldn't ever sing it. especially not in that music class of yours, they're all like . . . anti high school musical. those rocker kids and stuff. at least i'm open to all types of music."

tom laughed, and stuck his tongue out. "i wouldn't ever sing it? how much are you betting? 'cause i'll walk into music tomorrow and belt out the song we've just been singing!" he laughed again. tom would though. he wouldn't just fall in line with the rest of his music class. it was a good thing to be different. and high school musical was definitely different. plus, tom liked that song. it reminded him of his and hannah's relationship. "the start of something new," was the title, and that was all tom could wish for, because he knew that getting back with hannah would probably never happen.

he looked at the tv, watching troy and gabriella, but instead seeing himself and hannah. tom blinked a few times, but couldn't make it go away. she was all he could think about. and it was driving him mad. tom knew the friendship would be over if he told her, but tom didn't know how much longer he could hold it in. he was about to break sometime soon. sometime very soon. but he couldn't let that show, especially not in front of hannah. he had to stay composed, and most of all, stay calm.

holding hannah close felt great. tom knew he shouldn't feel like that, but he did. "don't know about you...buy i could stay here for a while." tom said. he laughed slightly afterwards, but not too much. because he had meant what he said. tom would be very happy to just stay there, holding hannah.eventually he would have to get up, but not yet. tom didn't need to, and more importantly, he didn't want to.
